When it comes to celebrating, you can make anything into an excuse to party. Your dog is a great reason to have a party, especially if your dog is like one of your children — you want to celebrate all of his accomplishments just like you would a son or daughter. Here are some fun excuses for throwing a dog party.
What could be better than to celebrate the day of your doggie’s birth? If you don’t know when your dog was born, you can go by the day you brought your little rover home or just pick a day and make that her birthday. Invite all the dogs in the neighborhood (and their owners) and be sure to decorate with little party hats for each of the dogs. Buy some expensive dog treats or dog food or make your own dog cake using meat. Of course, don’t forget to have doggie bags for each of the guests.
Of course, there will be times when you want to celebrate your dog’s accomplishments as well. Just like you would have a party to celebrate your child’s graduation from school, you can have a party to celebrate Fido graduating obedience school. Another achievement worth a party is competing in a dog show or learning a new trick.
Celebrate a Holiday
There are so many holidays throughout the year, and any one of them would be fun to throw a party for your dog. Around Christmas, you could throw a doggie Christmas party for your dog and all of his friends. You can find a dog Santa costume, which will make him look really festive. Be sure to have a small Christmas present for each of your dog guests such as a snack bone with a red and gold ribbon tied around it.
Of course, major holidays aren’t the only days worth celebrating. If you want to do something really fun, find a smaller holiday to have a party with such as Cinco de Mayo (May 5) or St. Patty’s Day (March 17). There are also the obscure holidays that you’ve probably never heard of such as Talk Like a Pirate Day on September 19. Make sure to invite all guests to dress in a pirate costume (including dogs) and play a game where if you stop using pirate lingo you lose!
Pick a Theme and Go for It!
If you can’t think of a good holiday to celebrate, you can have a party anyway. This is especially great when there is a lull in holidays. Send out invites to your friends and dog owners announcing that you’re having a Hawaiian Luau, a Winter Wonderland (even if it’s July!), or a fantasy party (where everyone has to dress up in a fairy, dwarf, ogre, or dryad costume). Since dog costumes are so common, you’re sure to find the perfect one for your furry friend.
There are so many reasons to celebrate having a dog in your life. They bring such love to your family, that really any excuse can be used to celebrate your best friend.
